WGU C204 Task 2 Guide: Presentation + Executive Summary
Updated on: Sep 24, 2026
By Dan Palmer, MBA · Academic strategy consultant for working adult learners · LinkedIn
Working full time and trying to finish WGU C204 Task 2? Start here. You’re a manager at Merrilton Robotics preparing to onboard new employees. The task asks you to evaluate two communication strategies and two communication methods, turn that analysis into an 8–12 slide presentation you record yourself delivering, and write a roughly one-page executive summary based on that presentation. Most of the confusion isn’t the content, it’s not knowing what belongs on a slide versus what you say out loud, and what the executive summary needs to do differently from the presentation. This guide covers both.
C204 — BKM3 Task 2: Multimedia Presentation and Executive Summary On Communication Strategies and Methods
Introduction
For this assessment, you will evaluate communication methods and strategies, then record yourself delivering a multimedia presentation (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote) using the Panopto video recording system.
For instructions on how to access and use Panopto, go to the web links section below. To meet the assessment requirements, you must submit your recording URL for evaluation along with your multimedia presentation.
To submit this task, you will upload the recording to the Panopto drop box folder titled “Management Communication.” Once the recording has been uploaded and saved in Panopto’s system, you will retrieve the URL of the recording from Panopto and submit it along with the remaining task requirements for grading.
Scenario
You are a manager for Merrilton Robotics and will soon be onboarding new employees in your department. You need to evaluate communication strategies and methods, provide a presentation for new employees based on your findings, and create an executive summary of your presentation.
Requirements
Your submission must represent your original work and understanding of the course material. Most performance assessment submissions are automatically scanned through the WGU similarity checker. Students are strongly encouraged to wait for the similarity report to generate after uploading their work and then review it to ensure Academic Authenticity guidelines are met before submitting the file for evaluation. See Understanding Similarity Reports for more information.
Grammarly Note:
Professional Communication will be automatically assessed through Grammarly for Education in most performance assessments before a student submits work for evaluation. Students are strongly encouraged to review the Grammarly for Education feedback prior to submitting work for evaluation, as the overall submission will not pass without this aspect passing. See Use Grammarly for Education Effectively for more information.Microsoft Files Note:
Write your paper in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) unless another Microsoft product, or pdf, is specified in the task directions. Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc. All supporting documentation, such as screenshots and proof of experience, should be collected in a pdf file and submitted separately from the main file. For more information, please see Computer System and Technology Requirements. You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.
A. Evaluate two types of organizational communication strategies (e.g., indirect, direct, pivoting) by doing the following:
- Describe a business situation where the twoselected organizational communication strategies are used effectively.
- Describe threeattributes that correlate with one of the selected communication strategies.
B. Evaluate two types of organizational communication methods (e.g., email, letter, blog, social media) by doing the following:
- Describe a business situation where the twoselected communication methods are used effectively.
- Describe threeattributes that correlate with one of the selected communication methods.
C. Design a multimedia presentation (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple Keynote) (suggested length of 8–12 slides and no longer than 15 minutes) for new employees communicating the effectiveness of the organizational communication strategies and methods you evaluated in parts A and B by doing the following:
- Create an audiovisual recording of yourself delivering a presentation using an approved platform that incorporates your multimedia presentation content from part C.
a. Demonstrate confidence, credibility, and professionalism while delivering a well-organized presentation.
Note: The video should feature you visibly presenting the material wearing professional attire (i.e., not using a voice-over or embedded video) and should simultaneously capture both you and your required multimedia presentation. The presentation should be clear and well organized, and you should demonstrate strong communication skills and represent a strong professional appearance. You must submit your multimedia presentation with this task.
D. Write an executive summary (suggested length of 1 page) based on the multimedia presentation you designed in part C.
E. Acknowledge sources, using in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.
F. Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.

|---|---|
| A1 | Describe a business situation where your two selected communication strategies are used effectively |
| A2 | Describe three attributes that correlate with one of your two selected strategies |
| B1 | Describe a business situation where your two selected communication methods are used effectively |
| B2 | Describe three attributes that correlate with one of your two selected methods |
| C | Design an 8–12 slide multimedia presentation (suggested length, no longer than 15 minutes) covering your Part A and B analysis |

| E | Cite sources, in-text and in a reference list, for anything quoted, paraphrased, or summarized |
| F | Demonstrate professional communication throughout |
Two strategies. Two methods. Three attributes each, for one strategy and one method. If you’ve seen guidance elsewhere naming four methods or skipping the three-attributes requirement entirely, that doesn’t match the current task instructions; the count and structure above are what to build from.
What You Need Before Starting
- Your current C204 Task 2 instructions and rubric
- Microsoft PowerPoint or Apple Keynote (or an equivalent exported to a compatible format)
- Panopto access, or your course’s approved alternative recording platform
- A quiet recording environment and professional attire
- Your two selected communication strategies and two selected communication methods
- Any sources you plan to cite, formatted in APA
- Microsoft Word for the executive summary, unless your task specifies otherwise
C204 Task 2 in Plain English
A. Pick two communication strategies. A1: describe a situation where both work well. A2: pick one of the two and name three attributes that make it effective.
B. Pick two communication methods. B1: describe a situation where both work well. B2: pick one of the two and name three attributes that make it effective.
C. Turn A and B into an 8–12 slide presentation for new Merrilton Robotics employees, and record yourself delivering it, visibly, in professional attire.
D. Write a roughly one-page executive summary based on that presentation, not a transcript of it.
E. Cite anything you quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.
F. Keep the whole submission professional, in writing and on camera.
Communication Strategy vs. Communication Method
This distinction is where the most common structural mistake happens, so it’s worth stating plainly before anything else.
Strategy = how the communication is structured or approached. Direct versus indirect, formal versus informal, pivoting. This is about the shape of the message.
Method = the channel or format used to communicate. Email, letter, blog, social media, a live presentation. This is about the delivery vehicle.
Mixing these up, treating “email” as a strategy, or “direct” as a method, is a fast way to lose points on both A and B even if the underlying analysis is sound. Keep a running label on every item you write: is this a how (strategy) or a where/what channel (method)?
Part A: Communication Strategies
Choose two strategies. The task instructions list direct, indirect, and pivoting as examples; you aren’t limited to these three, but they’re a safe, well-documented starting point.
A1 asks for a business situation where your two selected strategies are both used effectively, tied to the Merrilton Robotics onboarding context specifically, not a generic scenario that could belong to any company.
A2 asks you to pick one of your two strategies and describe three attributes that correlate with it, specific qualities that explain why the strategy works the way it does. This is the part most guides online skip entirely. An attribute is not just a restated definition; it’s a specific characteristic (clarity, audience receptiveness, information density) that you can point to and explain.
Illustrative example (direct strategy, one of two selected): Three attributes that correlate with a direct communication strategy: it leads with the conclusion before supporting detail, which suits a Merrilton onboarding audience that wants clear answers fast; it reduces the time needed to reach understanding, useful when policy and role information has to be communicated in a single onboarding session; and it depends on a receptive audience willing to accept information without persuasive buildup, a reasonable assumption for new hires who arrived expecting to be informed.

Part B: Communication Methods
Choose two methods. The task instructions list email, letter, blog, and social media as examples. Two methods, not four; B1 and B2 mirror A1 and A2’s structure exactly, just applied to methods instead of strategies.
B1 asks for a business situation where your two selected methods are both used effectively for Merrilton onboarding specifically.
B2 asks you to pick one of your two methods and describe three attributes that correlate with it.
Illustrative example (email, one of two selected): Three attributes that correlate with email as a communication method: it’s asynchronous, letting new employees review onboarding information at their own pace rather than in a single sitting; it creates a documented, searchable record employees can return to after their first day; and it scales without additional effort, reaching an entire onboarding cohort with one message rather than requiring individual delivery.
C204 Task 2 PowerPoint: Building the 8–12 Slides
Suggested length: 8–12 slides. Maximum presentation time: 15 minutes. These are the current task’s own figures; treat any guidance you see elsewhere naming 10–14 slides or a 5–10 minute runtime as outdated.
A workable structure, offered as a recommended organization rather than an official slide-by-slide requirement:
| Slide | Content |
|---|---|
| 1 | Title / introduction |
| 2 | Merrilton Robotics onboarding communication context |
| 3 | Communication Strategy 1 |
| 4 | Communication Strategy 2 |
| 5 | Three attributes of your selected strategy (A2) |
| 6 | Communication Method 1 |
| 7 | Communication Method 2 |
| 8 | Three attributes of your selected method (B2) |
| 9 | Why these strategies and methods work together for onboarding |
| 10 | Key onboarding communication takeaways |
| 11 | Conclusion / next steps |
| 12 | References |
Map your own content to the rubric requirements above; this table is a starting organization, not a checklist WGU grades against directly.
What Goes on the Slide vs. What You Say
On the slide: short bullets, keywords, a simple diagram if it clarifies a relationship, brief definitions. The slide is a visual anchor, not a script.
Out loud: the actual explanation, the reasoning behind why a strategy or method fits Merrilton’s onboarding needs, delivered with the confidence, credibility, and professionalism the rubric asks for. If a slide could be read verbatim as your entire explanation, it’s carrying content that belongs in your spoken delivery instead.
C204 Task 2 Panopto Recording: What You Need to Know
Based on the current task instructions:
- You must record yourself delivering the presentation on an approved platform (Panopto, or your course’s specified alternative).
- The recording must visibly show you presenting, in professional attire, not a voice-over and not an embedded video substituting for your visible presence.
- The recording must simultaneously show you and your multimedia presentation content, both visible at once, not just your slides with your voice underneath.
- You’re expected to demonstrate confidence, credibility, and professionalism while delivering a well-organized presentation.
- Once recorded, you upload the file to the Panopto drop box folder titled “Management Communication,” then retrieve the recording’s URL and submit it along with your multimedia presentation.
Recording Checklist
- Camera works
- Microphone works and audio is clear
- Slides are visible
- You are visibly presenting, not narrating over static slides
- Professional attire
- Quiet, distraction-free environment
- Presentation is organized and follows your slide structure
- You are not simply reading slides word for word
- Recording stays within the 15-minute maximum
- Recording is uploaded to the Panopto “Management Communication” drop box folder
- Recording URL is retrieved
- URL is included with your submission
C204 Task 2 Executive Summary: What to Write
Suggested length: about 1 page. The executive summary is based on the presentation, not a copy of it.
| Presentation | Executive Summary | |
|---|---|---|
| Audience | New employees | A written management-style document |
| Purpose | Deliver the onboarding communication session | Analyze and justify the communication approach |
| Format | Slides + spoken delivery | Prose, analytical, citable |
A workable structure:
- Opening — purpose and the Merrilton Robotics onboarding context
- Communication strategies — your selected strategies and why they’re effective
- Communication methods — your selected methods and their relevance
- Communication effectiveness — how strategies and methods connect to the onboarding objective
- Conclusion — the recommended communication approach, stated plainly
- References
The clearest test for whether a sentence belongs in the executive summary: if it could be read aloud on a slide without sounding out of place, it’s too descriptive and not analytical enough for this document.
Most Common C204 Task 2 Mistakes
- Using four communication methods instead of two. The current task asks for two.
- Confusing strategies with methods. Keep the how versus channel distinction in mind for every item.
- No business situation given for the selected strategies (A1).
- No business situation given for the selected methods (B1).
- Fewer than three attributes where the rubric requires three (A2, B2).
- Slides filled with paragraphs instead of bullets and keywords.
- Reading the slides word for word instead of expanding on them verbally.
- Not visibly appearing in the recording, or relying on a voice-over.
- Forgetting professional attire.
- Ignoring the 15-minute maximum.
- An executive summary that reads like a transcript of the presentation rather than a standalone analysis.
- Missing citations for anything quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.
- Submitting without reviewing Grammarly feedback.
- Ignoring the similarity report.
- Not checking the current rubric before submission.
Before You Submit
- Grammarly for Education checks Part F automatically; the submission won’t pass without this aspect clearing, so review its feedback before you finalize, not after.
- Similarity report: wait for it to generate after uploading, then review it to confirm your submission represents your own original work and understanding before submitting for evaluation.
- File format: write the executive summary in Microsoft Word unless your task specifies another format. Submissions can’t be cloud links (Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive); confirm current WGU technology requirements before finalizing.
C204 Task 2 Example: What It’s Actually Useful For
If you’re searching “C204 Task 2 example,” “management communication C204 Task 2 answers,” or “management communication C204 Task 2 solutions,” here’s the honest version of what helps: every Merrilton Robotics submission is graded on how specifically your own analysis connects strategies to methods to the onboarding objective, so a finished paper you copy isn’t a shortcut, it’s an originality risk. What a genuine C204 Task 2 example is useful for is structure: how a business situation should read, what a real attribute looks like versus a restated definition, how an executive summary stays analytical instead of turning into a presentation recap.
The downloadable files below are built for exactly that, an illustrative slide outline and a full executive summary example, clearly labeled as a model to study, not a management communication C204 Task 2 assignment to adapt and submit.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is WGU C204 Task 2? A performance assessment in Management Communication (C204, internally BKM3) asking you to evaluate two communication strategies and two communication methods for onboarding new employees at Merrilton Robotics, present that analysis in a recorded 8–12 slide presentation, and write a roughly one-page executive summary.
How many communication strategies does C204 Task 2 require? Two.
How many communication methods does C204 Task 2 require? Two.
What is BKM3 Task 2? BKM3 is WGU’s internal code for the C204 Management Communication course; BKM3 Task 2 is this same assessment.
How many slides should the presentation have? The current task suggests 8–12 slides.
How long can the C204 Task 2 presentation be? No longer than 15 minutes, per the current task instructions.
Do I have to appear on camera? Yes. The recording needs to visibly show you presenting, in professional attire, simultaneously with your slide content; a voice-over or embedded video in place of your visible presence doesn’t satisfy this requirement.
Do I need to use Panopto? Panopto is the platform named in the current task instructions, with recordings uploaded to the “Management Communication” drop box folder. Confirm your own course’s approved platform if this differs.
What should I include in the executive summary? An analytical document, about one page, connecting your selected strategies and methods to the Merrilton Robotics onboarding objective, not a recap of your presentation’s content.
Can I read directly from my PowerPoint? You can reference it, but reading slides verbatim is one of the most common mistakes; the rubric wants you to demonstrate understanding and professional delivery, not recitation.
What should I wear for the recording? Professional attire, per the current task instructions.
What is the difference between a communication strategy and a communication method? Strategy is how a message is structured or approached (direct, indirect, pivoting). Method is the channel used to deliver it (email, letter, blog, social media).
